I am training for a marathon. I know to some of you that seems like a big deal and to others it seems like a minor thing. For me, it is huge. I use the word huge on purpose for a couple of reasons: 1. the task of training and actually running in the marathon (I have run a couple of 1/2 marathons) is a lot of work. 2. By comparison to most people, I do not look like a guy that should be entertaining thoughts of a marathon. Although I am in very good cardio shape, I still am 6'2" and 260 lbs. That means I am HUGE, although my beautiful wife would issue a similarly HUGE denial, the fact remains that I am bigger than most anyone I see training for endurance events.

I guess what I am getting at is that if I can do it, it seems like anyone should be able to do it. I have always had trouble with my weight. As a favorite TV character of mine frequently opines: " I am not FAT, I am big-boned. So I am a big guy and I always have been. I am OK with that and it isnt going to stop me from training. It may take me longer to get to the finish line, BUT I WILL get there. I think that is the attitude that everyone should have I WILL. So many people use the words I CAN'T, I DONT HAVE TIME, I AM TOO BIG, I DONT KNOW WHERE TO START or any phrase that begins with the word BUT as an excuse. Folks, get out there and DO IT. Get off your BUT (LOL), make some goals, reach those goals and reset them a little higher. When we are on our deathbed, will you be sad that you didnt get to watch more TV or play more video games or will you be sad that you didnt get out and DO SOMETHING!

Over this last weekend with the Eustis Fit Club we were able to WALK/RUN around Silver Lake in Leesburg, FL. It is a three mile flat journey and it was such a nice cool day that several of us did it twice. If you are interested in doing some long runs with me.....over 10 miles, please email me at ssherman@cnbt-fl.com.

Until next time....take care

ANOTHER GROUP OF RUNNERS OR WALKERS

There is a need for another day and another time other than our regular Saturday 8 AM thing.  We have people that want to do their thing with someone.  Yes, we know about the pace problem, but we need to support each other if we can.

SO IF YOU DO EITHER RUN OR WALK AT A REGULAR TIME AND PLACE, and would welcome others to join with you, LET US ADD YOU TO A LIST.

Shane is looking for someone to do longer runs with him--- any takers?

RUNNING AND WALKING PLACES IN EUSTIS

We would like to add more running and walking areas near Eustis.  What is you favorite place, not listed already on the side bar?  Yes, we know about "out your front door" is usually the best!

GENERAL MEETING FEBRUARY 1,2010

We had 12 at our first meeting.  Karen Hohman was elected President.  She is a busy lady and needs your support or you might be stuck with the presidents job.

Sam mentioned that he thought the running club would stand on three main legs.  1) The weekly run-walk get together.  2) Monthly meeting with an educational program associated with running, walking, exercise or general health.  3) Local races.  Some members will be drawn to one of the activities and maybe a few to all of them.  A fourth category that might develope later would be outreach to healthy life styles with a) childrens program.  b) Police and Firemen.  c) High school age group.  d) Medical rehab program.

Police Officer Misti Mohrenne, the Community Relation Officer, explained her roll as CRO, her experience running and stair climbing and weight control.  She offers to measure distances for us with her Laser guage.
She will help us with road access for races.

Kristy Rohwedder is working on the T shirt program.

The Shermans are helping with the eustisrunnerandwalker.blogspot.com thing.  Members are encouraged to log on and make comments, become followers and/or suggest topics.

Kristy has the Facebook page rolling nicely with many many members.

Publicity had an article in the Daily Commercial and we expect more comverage.

MIKE NEPHEW, who had just returned from a hot 1/2 marathon in Miami, discussed preparations for races like a marthon.  Warm ups, foot alinement, shoes, leg hip and back mobility, heart rate monitoring, water loss and replacement.

Next monthly meeting will be March 1, 2010 at 6 PM  and it will be at the Eustis Recreation Garden Room at 2214 Bates Avenue.  Enter at the double doors on Bates Ave.   We will try to have Eric from Fleet feet talk about 5K races.  Rick Copley is on deck for a program soon.

The next run walk is Saturday 8 AM at Silver Lake.  Check Facebook for where to meet.
